EDMWND PRYS

Dear

What? - not another epistle and chart !!

I hope some of you will have digested and enjoyed “ The Gallimurfry of Llanfrothen,”. I have been reading about Edmwnd Prys and constructed the chart; attached. It is based mainly on T.Ceiri Griffith’s Welsh article and book, to whom I am indebted, and our work over the last two years on our Llanfrothen family. The chart brings together the whole canvas of families, discovered so far.
Recently ( FelRh093 para 7), we have found a possible direct relationship between Edmwnd Prys and William Lewis- ( his g.g.g.g.grandson- through Ffoulk Prys, of Tyddyn Du - Elizabeth Prys of Wern, Llanfrothen- Mary Jones – Marged Edward, William Lewis’s mother).
We see two branches emanating from Edmwnd Prys one from his first wife Elin and the other from his second wife, Gwen ( cousins, from Pengwern Ffestiniog). Through marriage, we also see that the Pierces of Hafod Ryffudd/ Ffridd Uchaf, Beddgelert rejoins the two branches – when Margaret Prichard marries David Williams- 1809 –the parents of Griffudd Dafydd, Felenrhyd fawr etc.( see Row 7/8 - in the middle of the chart )
We see from the chart (line 3) that Elizabeth Prys of Wern (the g.grandmother of William Lewis) was the sister of Lowry Prys. Now Lowry, ( being the heiress of her father, Ffoulk Prys), owned the land of Rhiwbryfdir, Blaenau Ffestiniog where the Oakley quarry is situated. ( also connected with Tan y bwlch, Dolmoch a Dduallt -see references)
We also see from T Ceiri Griffith’s work, on the left of the chart, the interesting connections of Hafod Ysbyty, Ty nant y Beddau, Llety Gwilym, Bwlchwa ( & also later Rowlands of Llety fadog) ; on the outskirts of Llan Ffestiniog. Some of the descendants are still connected with these properties. Lletty Gwilym is still owned by Helen Noble, a descendants of Hafod y Rhisg – some 400 years on !!
